How coincidental, while I was on the couch having a pity party for myself and that time of month, I pick up Peggy's book and open directly to PMS No More. How ironic is that! So, needless to say, I don't think I'll try the sponge idea, but I will embrace my "power-time" with a little less pity!! Thank you Peggy!!
Marvelous, funny, poignant little mini-dramas of the monthly visit--perfect for quick reading in your "private room". It brought back long forgotten memories of bad timing, inconvenience, and doing surreptitious laundry. Most women have endured this 500 to 600+ times in their life, so who is to say WE are the weaker sex?
What an enjoyable book! Peggy nailed every part of what women go through in their lifetime. The humor was infectious, the stories divine. What a wonderful story teller. It was as if she were in my head! This is a book ALL women will enjoy and relate to. What a gift to share with the younger women we know.
I just finished a girls getaway weekend with my daughters,and granddaughter,I brought Peggy Lumpkin's book,Tales of the Curse, with me to read. Well,once my daughters got a hold of it,we were laughing,crying,and sharing our personal stories of the "Curse". Ms. Lumpkin has really assembled a variety of 'tales' that are not only entertaining, but also great opportunities to open discussions that reveal so much about womanhood. No matter where you find yourself in the cycle of cycling, this sweet, funny book reflects our stories in bold and sometimes hilarious detail. Peggy's captured our stories, collected them and gifts them to us to share with our daughters and mothers of daughters.
As the British would say this book is a bloody good read! Peggy Lumpkin accomplishes the difficult task of making a woman's monthly cycle into highly entertaining page turning reading. Each story brings the reader into an intimate space of shared feminine experience or lore. Whether we find ourselves cringing, laughing or crying, the end result is a little gem of a book that brings us all together in our woman's experience. The artistic design of the book with it's elegant turn of the century illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley make it a lovely gift book to share between friends or a sweet coming of age gift for a young woman new to the club.
The stories in this book are irresistible. Once I began reading I couldn't stop turning the pages to read the next tale. They brought out so many feelings; delight, sympathy, embarrassment, alliance, and amusement. There were many moments where I couldn't help but laugh out loud. The last few chapters provide a back ground of "the curse" both historical and culturally that has me viewing my monthlies in a whole new way. Also it is uncanny how the author is able to match the Beardsley art with each tale. Each picture she chose brings out the imagery of the story just perfectly. What a great compilation on a subject that has for too long been taboo. I would recommend this book for women of all ages and for any man with a women in his life, be it a wife or a daughter.
